Finland will host eight one-day strikes starting on December 4. This is reported by foreign media.

The Finnish Air Line Pilots’ Association (SLL) will hold two strikes. Due to the strikes, the Finnish airline Finnair Plc cancels 300 flights on December 9 and 13, which will affect the flights of 39 thousand airline customers.

The strike is related to the lack of positive results in the negotiations on the signing of a new collective labor agreement between the union and Finnair.

In addition, the Finnish industrial trade union Teollisuusliitto announced six more one-day strikes that will affect about 200 companies in the technology sector due to the lack of agreement on a new collective agreement.

The Central Association of Finnish Trade Unions SAK demands a 10% wage increase in the next 2 years against the background of a decrease in the purchasing power of the population.

The strikes will continue a series of large-scale protests held in Finland in early 2024 in all sectors, which led to losses for steel companies and a 30% collapse in Finnish exports due to port shutdowns. The cumulative damage to the Finnish economy from strikes against government reforms amounted to about 2 billion euros, but did not lead to a policy review.

On May 18, Finland imposed restrictions on strikes. It is forbidden to hold political strikes for more than one day, and industrial strikes for more than two weeks. Fines of up to 150 thousand euros will be levied for violation of the new law.

Finnair is Finland's largest state—owned airline. The headquarters is located at Vantaa Airport in Helsinki (Finland). The company is a member of the Oneworld alliance.
