Microchip manufacturer Silex Microsystems AB is considering an IPO in Stockholm as a result of the sale of a controlling stake in Chinese Sai Micro Electronics Inc. to Swedish investors. This is reported in the Silex press release.

As part of the stock offering in 2026, Silex expects to increase its market value from SEK 5.5 billion ($570 million) in early 2025 to more than $1 billion.

Currently, 45% of Silex shares belong to the Chinese company Sai Micro Electronics Inc., and the remaining shares belong to a consortium of Swedish companies. Sai was the majority owner of Silex until the sale of a controlling stake to a group of Swedish investors led by Bure Equity and Creades AB in June 2025.

Silex had previously considered going public and resumed preparations to create an ownership structure that would be more attractive to investors as part of an IPO.

The production of microchips is under pressure from national security and geopolitical factors, especially regarding the participation of Chinese companies in European assets. In particular, in September 2025, the Dutch government transferred control of the Nexperia chip manufacturer from the Chinese parent company Wingtech Technology Co., which led to a collapse in the automotive sector.

Silex is the largest manufacturer of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), including sensors and mechanisms for consumer electronics and medical equipment. MEMS devices are similar to semiconductors, but contain mechanical components as well as electronic circuits. Silex operates a foundry in Stockholm with revenues of 1.23 billion crowns. The headquarters is located in Stockholm (Sweden).
