The Vietnamese government plans to reduce shares in some state-owned companies while maintaining full ownership of large energy and strategically important assets until 2030. This is reported by foreign media with reference to the government's website.

The Vietnamese Government has launched a broad campaign to improve the efficiency of state-owned enterprises, improve capital allocation and management, including increasing private sector participation in selected state-owned enterprises.

At the same time, the country's leadership will maintain state ownership in strategically important sectors. In particular, the government will retain 100% in Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and PetroVietnam in accordance with the state capital restructuring plan for 2026-2030.

The state's share will remain unchanged in 13 other enterprises, including Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Corp., Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group and Vietnam National Chemical Group.

At the same time, the government will reduce its shares in Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) and Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam to 65% from 76.7%.

The Ministry of Finance and the State Bank of Vietnam will oversee the restructuring of enterprises, which is expected to be completed by 2030.

At the end of 2025, there were 695 state-owned enterprises in Vietnam, including 497 wholly owned by the government.
