Today, a solemn ceremony was held to launch traffic at the Kani-Kurgan automobile checkpoint located in the Amur region on the border with China. The main construction and installation works for the construction of a new infrastructure have been completed at the facility.

Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Saveliev, Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin and Head of the Federal Customs Service of Russia Valery Pikalev took part in the ceremony via videoconference.

The start of traffic on 16 new lanes was given by Vitaly Saveliev. "This is part of a large-scale task to increase the capacity of our border crossings on priority sections of the border. We are solving it on a comprehensive basis within the framework of the national project "Efficient Transport System". After the reconstruction, the number of lanes at the border crossing increased from 4 to 16. The capacity of the Kani-Kurgan checkpoint will increase 4.5 times," said Vitaly Saveliev.

According to the results of the work carried out, the capacity of Kani Kurgan amounted to 862 vehicles and about 5.5 thousand people per day. There are 16 lanes with the possibility of increasing to 24. Earlier in December 2024, a passenger route was launched at a faster pace with the possibility of passing up to 1,000 passengers per day.

Andrey Nikitin emphasized the importance of opening the modernized border crossing. Over the past 5 years, the APP's throughput in priority areas has increased significantly. "The growth is 5 times with Azerbaijan, almost 2.5 times with Mongolia, 2 times with Georgia, and almost the same with China. This is a good sign that our export and import flows are in demand. The opening of the Kani-Kurgan checkpoint is a logical continuation of this work. This is a new growth point for the economy of the Amur Region and the entire Far East," the minister said.

One of the key digital solutions was the installation of portal inspection and inspection systems. Their use will make it possible to scan 100% of vehicles with cargo and identify prohibited items and substances.

"Kani-Kurgan is a priority checkpoint where the President's instructions to reduce the time of cargo transport inspection to 10 minutes will be carried out in a pilot mode," he stressed. Valery Pikalyov.

The launch of 16 traffic lanes at the Kani-Kurgan checkpoint made it possible to create comfortable conditions for participants in foreign economic activity and persons crossing the state border, as well as to develop transit opportunities in the region and strengthen trade, economic and cultural ties between Russia and China.
