Tomsk Polytechnic University and Geoscan, a leading Russian developer and manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicles, signed a cooperation agreement in Tomsk on February 16. Together, the university and the company plan to train personnel for the drone industry and develop research projects.
The solemn signing of the contract took place at the conference "Unmanned Industry – 2023", which opened today at Tomsk Polytechnic University. The event, organized by the company and the university with the support of the Aeronext Association, brought together both leading experts and those who are just taking the first steps in the direction of UAVs.
The agreement was signed by Dmitry Sednev, Rector of Tomsk Polytechnic University, and Alexey Yuretsky, CEO of Geoscan LLC. The parties plan to combine the educational, research and innovation potential of the university and the company. The agreement was signed under the patronage of the Tomsk Region Administration and in the presence of Governor Vladimir Mazur.
"For us, of course, cooperation with Geoscan is extremely interesting. If we turn to history, it was at Tomsk Polytechnic University, here in Siberia, that the base for aeronautics and the aviation industry was born. It is enough to mention our graduates — Mil and Kamov. We plan to develop this tradition. And we hope to cooperate very closely with our partners in the person of Geoscan, both in terms of the development of algorithms, automatic control systems, and in the practical application of unmanned vehicles. After all, drones are increasingly in demand in a variety of industries," said the rector of the university Dmitry Sednev.
Among the main areas for cooperation are projects aimed at training and retraining of personnel: the development of joint educational programs and advanced training and professional retraining programs, targeted training of students for the needs of Geoscan, the participation of highly qualified specialists of the industrial partner in the educational process in the format of classes, the development of new courses and project—oriented educational programs.
"There are many factors that attract us to Tomsk Polytechnic University and Tomsk as a whole. We already know in practice that Tomsk is rich in talents. And these talents are born here, and then grow up in the walls of universities. Of course, we need new specialists, we need academic, fundamental science that will allow us to develop technologies and move forward the domestic unmanned industry. Now this is a very relevant topic, as we all know, there is a separate instruction from the President of the Russian Federation. I hope that here we will be able to find new opportunities for cooperation and interaction, people interested in the development of new projects, students who, having seen our equipment and our capabilities, will want to learn something new, will focus on the unmanned industry," said Alexey Yuretsky, CEO of Geoscan LLC.
In addition, it is planned that students and postgraduates will be able to undergo internships and internships on the basis of the company. Geoscan will participate in career guidance events for schoolchildren and students, career days and job fairs. Employees of the organization are to undergo additional professional education programs at Tomsk Polytechnic University, and polytechnics are internships in the company.
Another promising area will be cooperation in the field of research and technical implementation activities. It provides, among other things, joint research, development and experimental technological work, fundamental and applied research. Also, within the framework of the agreement, the parties are discussing the possibility of organizing a scientific, educational, research or other Geoscan center on the basis of Tomsk Polytechnic University and the university's representative office in the company.
