A virtual storyteller in Yandex Books has learned how to voice your lines in different voices. A new "Role-based" mode based on the Yandex speech synthesis technology is already available for 2,500 books. There will be more in the future.

In the Role-based mode, the virtual narrator analyzes the text, determines the lines, and assigns different voices to the characters. This makes dialogues sound more natural, and their participants easier to distinguish by ear. The narrator takes into account the gender of the characters: the woman's lines will be voiced in a female voice, and the man's lines will be voiced in a male voice.

The Role mode is already available in the Yandex Books app. In addition to him, the virtual narrator has two more voice-over modes: only in a male voice and only in a female voice. Speech synthesis technology is responsible for dubbing books. It is already used for more than 150,000 works that do not yet have a ready—made audio version. This makes books more accessible, including for blind and visually impaired users. According to Yandex Books, every tenth subscriber of the service regularly uses a virtual storyteller.
