The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council on Sustainable Development may be established on the basis of a consortium of the organization's economic analytical centers. Boris Titov, the special representative of the President of Russia for relations with international organizations for achieving sustainable development goals, said this in his Telegram channel.
Most of the participating countries have expressed their consent to the creation of the council. He will work on developing the agenda for the UN after 2030 and up to 2050. Now the parties need to agree on the details.
Russia suggests focusing on the most pressing challenges. These include climate change, geopolitical instability, pandemics, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity risks, as well as demographic pressures in the global South.
B.Titov noted that it is necessary to pay attention to the resource provision of future joint projects. Technology transfer, consolidation of finances and management competencies of the participating countries are necessary. To this end, the results of the council's work will be presented at meetings of the heads of Government and heads of State of the SCO.
