The German government demands the sale of the share of Tanquid GmbH&Co. KG in the pipeline operator FBG after the takeover of assets by the American company Sunoco LP. This is reported by foreign media with reference to the statement of the German Ministry of Economy.

According to the German government's demand, TanQuid is obliged to sell 49% of the pipeline operator Fernleitungs-Betriebsgesellschaft mbH (FBG), as the company is responsible for the operation of federal pipeline systems used by the German armed forces and NATO. The government, which owns 51% of FBG shares, has asked the German Ministry of Defense to buy back the remaining shares as a condition of the deal.

Earlier, the American oil distributor Sunoco underwent a multi-month audit to acquire Germany's largest reservoir storage operator. The acquisition of TanQuid by the American company Sunoco was completed on January 16, 2026 and caused criticism in Germany, as Sunoco is a subsidiary of the American Energy Transfer under the management of billionaire Kelcy Warren, a confidant of the President of the United States Donald Trump.

Recently, Germany and Europe have been more vigilant about the U.S. involvement in the energy system, despite the fact that the U.S. is one of the leading suppliers.

Tanquid GmbH is an industrial concern for the operation of oil depots in Germany and Poland, as well as for the supply of fuel to German military airfields, including in Buchel, where American nuclear weapons are stored. The company is the largest operator of strategic fuel reserves in the EU member states. Tanquid operates eight pipelines and its own railway tracks. The headquarters is located in Duisburg (Germany).

Sunoco LP is an American energy company in the field of infrastructure and distribution of motor fuels in the USA. The company includes three segments — fuel distribution, pipeline systems and terminals. The headquarters is located in Dallas, Texas.
