The Ministry of Transport of Russia hosted a working meeting of Transport Minister Roman Starovoit with the head of the Republic of Buryatia Alexei Tsydenov, at which priority issues of the development of the transport complex of the region were discussed.
"The Republic of Buryatia occupies a strategic position in the transport system of our country. Two railway lines run through its territory – the Trans-Siberian and Baikal-Amur, connecting the center of Russia with the Far East and the countries of Southeast Asia," he noted Roman Starovoit.
By the end of 2023, more than 700 thousand people were transported through the airports of the Republic. In 4 months of 2024, 4% more passengers were transported compared to the same period last year. In addition, this year, 23 buses have been purchased and delivered in the region due to existing support measures for the renewal of public transport.
The agenda of the meeting included a number of issues related to the development of road infrastructure in the region. The length of the highways of the Republic of Buryatia, which are part of the backbone network, is 1,723 km, of which 898 km are regional.
Alexey Tsydenov reported on the importance of building 9 overpasses across the Trans-Siberian Railway within the boundaries of the Ulan-Ude urban agglomeration, provided for by the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The facilities are designed to increase the capacity of highways at intersections with railway tracks.
Special attention is paid to the reconstruction of the Ulan-Ude – Turuntaevo – Kurumkan – Novy Uoyan highway. The facility is also being implemented on the instructions of the President of Russia.
In addition, within the framework of the national project "Safe high-quality roads", a bridge crossing over the Uda River in Ulan-Ude is being built. The construction of the bridge will allow to separate the flows of cars passing through the existing single Selenginsky Bridge, reduce the traffic load and increase the capacity of the city's road network.
Alexey Tsydenov touched upon the restoration of the bridge over the Vitim River. The 57.8 km long Taksimo – Vitim highway and the specified bridge connect the Kalarsky district of the Trans-Baikal Territory and the Muisky district of the Republic of Buryatia. The highway and the bridge are the only transport links between the specified areas.
