In September, in the Scientific and Production Association Energomash named after Academician V.P. Glushko (part of the State Corporation "Roscosmos") A meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council was held, at which the results of the development of a main engine with a central body for a promising Korona launch vehicle were considered.

"This topic is a confirmation of the possibility of creating a single—stage aircraft capable of reaching the first space speed. In this work, the head organization was the State Rocket Center named after Academician V.P. Makeev (part of Roscosmos). He has been working in this direction for a long time, — said the chief designer of NPO Energomash Peter Lovochkin.

In March 2023, a contract was signed with the co-executors of the Makeev Center for development in their field. In addition to NPO Energomash, other Roscosmos enterprises are taking part in this work — the Keldysh Center, the Central Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering and the Agat Company, as well as the Composite enterprise and a number of educational institutions.

"Taking into account the current course of the Roscosmos State Corporation for the development of the orbital grouping and the creation of the Sphere, plans for the construction of factories for the mass production of Earth remote sensing spacecraft, in general, this work is very relevant and lays great prospects for the future of our launch vehicles. This suggests that the concept of further movement is being chosen today," he noted Peter Lovochkin.

At the next stage of the research work, it is planned to develop a model engine design based on the calculated data of NPO Energomash and test it in the gas-dynamic pipe of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute.

The fully reusable single-stage vertical take-off and landing carrier rocket "Korona" is capable of both putting cargo into orbit and returning them back to Earth. It can be used as a vehicle for point-to-point suborbital flights of unlimited range.
