Due to the amendments made to the agreement on the regime of trade in goods between Russia and Abkhazia, Russian exports to this country are exempt from export customs duties.

This was stated by Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia Dmitry Volvach during a meeting with Prime Minister of Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab. The Deputy Minister paid special attention to the positive effect of the measures to develop bilateral cooperation in the socio-economic sphere implemented in 2024. He stressed the importance of resolving issues in the energy sector and the need to work together to achieve the indicators of the state program of socio-economic development of Abkhazia for 2022-2024.

"A number of important measures taken in the energy, logistics and social spheres have allowed us to support the stable development of the republic's economy and the steady growth of our own incomes and the well-being of citizens. The implementation of all these tasks is one of the main strategic goals of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Abkhazia, — Dmitry Volvach emphasized. — In the plans for the implementation of the state program by 2025, we expected an increase in the GDP of Abkhazia from 32.3 to 38.2 billion rubles. However, already in 2023, the actual figure increased 2.2 times and reached 69.4 billion rubles. Taking into account such high rates, in 2024 the expected level of GDP will amount to 76.4 billion rubles, and by 2025 — 83.3 billion rubles."

The Deputy Minister also noted the effective work of Abkhazia to increase its own revenues — from 6.5 billion rubles in 2021 to 9.82 billion rubles in 2023. "Taking into account the stable dynamics of the growth of own incomes over the previous three-year period, we forecast the growth of the republic's own budget revenues to 10.8 billion rubles in 2024 and 12.6 billion rubles by 2025. This is about 1.9 billion rubles annually," he cited the data Dmitry Volvach.

At a meeting on the socio-economic development of Abkhazia with the participation of representatives of relevant departments, the Deputy Minister discussed the construction of investment program facilities and the implementation of the program for the formation of a common social and economic space between Russia and Abkhazia based on the harmonization of legislation of the two countries.

During the working visit, representatives of the Russian delegation headed by Dmitry Volvach visited facilities that are being built and reconstructed in Abkhazia as part of the implementation of the investment program to promote the socio-economic development of the republic for 2023-2025. In the city of Ochamchira, they inspected the construction site of a port container terminal, which will increase trade turnover between the two countries.

"Mutual trade between Russia and Abkhazia demonstrates positive dynamics. In the first half of 2024, the trade turnover amounted to more than 16 billion rubles. With the construction of the terminal, this figure will increase significantly," he noted Dmitry Volvach. In the city of Sukhum, we visited the building of the republican children's Hospital under construction. The Deputy Minister drew attention to the need to comply with the deadlines for the construction of the facility and equip the children's hospital with modern equipment.

"Taking care of the health of the younger generation is a priority and national task that requires joint efforts of our countries," he concluded. "Tangible results in the health sector of the republic can only be achieved by effective and coordinated work on the part of the Russian and Abkhaz authorities."

The Russian delegation also visited the Cadastral Chamber of Abkhazia, which, at the expense of funds from the Russian budget, was equipped with advanced equipment and software necessary to create a system of cadastral registration and registration of real estate rights. Until now, there has been no such system in the republic.
