The European Commission has approved the creation of a joint venture between the subsidiaries of Airbus SE and Air France-KLM. This is reported in the press release of the European regulator.
In particular, the deal involves the merger of Airbus SAS, controlled by Airbus SE, and Société Air France, controlled by Air France-KLM S.A.
From the EC's point of view, the agreement concerns the merger of two A350 aircraft maintenance companies, and, accordingly, will not cause a violation of competition rules, given the limited impact on the markets of the presence of both companies.
In 2023, Air France SA and Airbus SAS entered into a 50/50 joint venture agreement to provide maintenance services for Airbus A350 components worldwide (supply chain, management, repair, creation of a global pool of aviation components).
The joint venture, combining the expertise of Air France Industries, KLM Engineering & Maintenance and Airbus, aims to better meet the long-term maintenance needs of the global Airbus A350 fleet by increasing capacity, expanding its global market presence and developing innovative solutions for the benefit of customers.
Airbus SAS is a subsidiary of the aircraft manufacturer Airbus. The company is a French legal entity with headquarters in Blagnac (a suburb of Toulouse, France).
Airbus SE is a European aerospace corporation. The headquarters are located in Paris (France) and Ottobrunn (near Munich, Germany).
Air France-KLM is a European holding airline with headquarters at Charles de Gaulle Airport (near Paris). The airline is the largest in the world in terms of revenue and the third largest in terms of the number of airliners.
