QatarEnergy has signed a long-term agreement with Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat), under which Nakilat will own and operate 9 "QC-Max" class LNG vessels, the largest LNG vessels ever built. This is stated in the QatarEnergy message.
9 QC-Max vessels with a capacity of 271 thousand cubic meters each make up half of the 18 modern LNG vessels of the QC-Max class, which will be built at the Hudong-Zhonghua Chinese shipyard. To date, the QatarEnergy fleet expansion program has included the execution of shipbuilding and time charter contracts for 104 conventional LNG vessels and 18 QC-Max LNG vessels, a total of 122 ultramodern vessels. Delivery of the first new vessel is expected by the end of the third quarter of this year.
This long-term agreement followed Nakilat's selection in February 2024 as the owner and operator of 25 conventional LNG vessels. It also followed the signing of similar agreements in Beijing with three Chinese shipowners to operate 9 new QC-Max LNG vessels as part of QatarEnergy's historic LNG fleet expansion program, which will meet QatarEnergy's future needs as LNG production capacity at the Severnoye Field expands to 142 million tons per year by 2030.
