Work has begun on the restoration of the historic Central Telegraph building in the center of the capital, said Igor Voistratenko, Chairman of Mosgosstroynadzor.

The object of cultural heritage is located on Tverskaya Street, 7 in the Tverskoy district.

"Moscow is increasing the volume of redevelopment of historical buildings in need of urgent restoration. The building of the Central Telegraph Office will not only be restored while preserving its historical appearance, but also adapted for operation in modern urban realities," he said Igor Voistratenko.

He added that the developer sent a notification to the agency about the start of construction and installation work. Specialists Mosgosstroynadzor will pay a preventive visit to the construction site, according to the results of which a program of inspections will be drawn up for the duration of restoration work.

A metal glazed globe will be recreated, the coat of arms of the USSR and the inscription "Telegraph" will be updated. The bell clock will also be repaired and the roof of the building will be updated.

Inside, the original layout will be restored, the late partitions and structures will be dismantled, walls and ceilings will be restored. Parking is organized on the underground level.

After the renovation, the Central Telegraph will become a multifunctional complex. A shopping gallery and office spaces will open in the building. An observation deck with a 360-degree view will be organized on the upper floors, and the courtyard, previously inaccessible to visitors, will turn into a new public space.

The Central Telegraph building in the Constructivist style at the corner of Tverskaya Street and Gazetny Lane was built in 1927 by architect Ivan Rerberg. In addition to the telegraph, the central radio center and offices of long-distance and international telephone communication worked in the high-rise.
