The company includes the former State Unitary Enterprise of the DPR "Donetsk Railway", State Unitary Enterprise of the LPR "Lugansk Railway", State Unitary Enterprise "Kherson Railway", State Enterprise "Melitopol Railway" and the Cross-border Concern "Railways of Donbass". The merger made it possible to build a unified logistics and create a common transportation management system in four regions.

"We have combined the repair bases of locomotive and wagon depots, and also concentrated the entire dispatching apparatus in a single transportation management center. And most importantly, trains can now pass freely along the entire route. Due to this, the speed of cargo delivery has increased," said Andrei Kazakov, Acting Director General of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Railways of Novorossiya.

Today, the number of employees of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Railways of Novorossiya" is 15,936 people. The staff is 72% staffed. Track fitters, electricians, machinists, and locksmiths are in the most demand now.

The average monthly salary at FSUE "Railways of Novorossiya" is 2.6 times higher than on the railways that became part of FSUE "ZHDN". In the future, an annual salary indexation will be carried out.

The Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Railways of Novorossiya" was established by Order of the Government of the Russian Federation dated May 29, 2023 No. 1404-R. The company is under the jurisdiction of Roszheldor. The head office is located in the city of Donetsk. The main tasks of FSUE ZHDN are to meet the needs for freight and passenger rail transportation and the phased withdrawal of the enterprise to a break–even level.
