Gazprom's official representative Sergey Kupriyanov recalled the discovery of the NATO underwater mine destroyer "Sea Fox" on the Nord Stream – 1 gas pipeline in 2015, the company said.
"Today it is necessary to recall the events on the Nord Stream gas pipeline, which have already been recorded earlier. This case is well known. On November 6, 2015, during a planned visual inspection of the Nord Stream -1 gas pipeline, a NATO underwater mine destroyer, the Sea Fox, was discovered. It lay in the space between the gas pipelines clearly in one of the threads. That's it (shows the diagram). This point is 651 kilometers, the depth is 40 meters. Then the explosive device was removed and defused by the Swedish armed forces. Gas transportation, stopped due to an emergency, was resumed. NATO announced that the underwater fuse was lost during the exercises. These are NATO exercises: when a military explosive device turns out to be exactly under our gas pipeline," S. Kupriyanov said on the air of the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
Earlier, Nord Stream reported that a sharp drop in pressure recorded as a result of a gas leak on both lines of the Nord Stream – 1 gas pipeline makes it safe to assume that the leakiness of the gas pipeline is caused by physical damage.
The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation has taken measures in connection with actions against the Russian gas pipelines "Nord Stream – 1" and "Nord Stream – 2".
Later it became known that the pressure in line A of the Nord Stream – 2 gas pipeline and both lines of the Nord Stream – 1 gas pipeline stabilized after the ruptures, gas leaks stopped.
